Meteorologists say frigid weather could bring record-breaking low temperatures from New York to Maine this weekend. 18 million people are bracing for this fastmoving weather system. The dangerous cold front is expected to bring record low temperatures and wind chills below -50F in northern New England. Officials are urging people to stay home because frostbite is possible within 15 minutes and hypothermia can occur within 10 minutes at temperatures below -30F. If you must go out, authorities say, 1) always wear a hat, scarf, and gloves, 2) wear layers of loose-fitting lightweight warm clothing, and 3) wear boots that will keep your feet warm and dry. This bitter freeze is a short-lived dangerous system, but be sure to check in on your neighbors, relatives, and the elderly. Please take extra precautions if you are in the path of this bitter weather system.
