Richmond’s African-American Book Festival was last week and I gave the Keynote address on my book, The Overlooked Voices of Hurricane Katrina Mississippi Black Women Survivors Resilience and Recovery. Over 300 people attended the event.  I spoke to the audience about the fact that  – since the disaster in 2005, there was and is still very little knowledge of the plight of Mississippi Hurricane Katrina survivors. I read quotes from the book. To bring the women’s voices into the room, I played an audio clip of one of the women’s voices; here’s what she said, “The news don’t talk about what happen here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. It seems like the media think Mississippi is not right next door to New Orleans. We are only one hour from there. Hurricane Katrina hit really hard here. It was real bad, and ninety percent of the Mississippi Gulf Coast is totally gone”.
My talk was well-received by the audience and yes, I sold some books. Here’s the link to order your copy now:  https://opheraadavis.com/book/overlooked-hurricane-katrina/
