Although I was not old enough to vote for President Carter, I remember him. My Mississippi Civics teacher, Mr. Bailey talked to our class about President Carter before he left office. Then, he told us to write to President Carter to tell him that we, young Mississippians, supported his initiative to protect the environment and by initiating a  recycling project in rural Mississippi. After hearing of his death, I looked through my relics until I found this certificate to honor his legacy. I remember gathering bottles and cans with my mother that my dad took to the recycling center. I’m so grateful that he and his staff valued a young Mississippi student’s letter because I supported his agenda. President Carter did so many great things over his 100  years and led America well. We will remember you Sir – as a ‘Great Statesmen’. Thank you President Carter.
