This is the peak of hurricane season and you can expect more storms for the next two months. National disaster experts are forecasting 6-10 tropical storms and 3 hurricanes.

As Florida awaits the approach of Tropical Depression Fred (up to 38 mph winds) another system will arrive by the end of next week. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) expects Fred to arrive Saturday and be a major rainmaker (the cone image shows where Fred’s impact will be felt). Florida’s Southern coastline is under a Flood Watch until Sunday and there are tropical storm watches and warnings along the Florida Keys. Fred is expected to maintain tropical depression strength through Sunday.

Right now, the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is monitoring a system that may gain speed over the next week and move toward the US.

So what can you do to get ready and stay safe: 1) Know how to reach your local electric company in case of outages (https://www.inmyarea.com/utilities), 2) Check your flood risk (https://floodfactor.com/), and 3) Get your hurricane kit ready now (https://www.ready.gov/kit). Be sure to check my BLOG next week for more information on the next tropical system that’s churning and headed for the US.
