Tropical Depression #Nine is churning in the Caribbean and it has the potential to strengthen as it tracks toward the Gulf of Mexico. According to the National Hurricane Center rapid intensification is possible as the system passes over the very warm Atlantic waters. If it intensifies, the system’s name will be ‘Ian’. The timing and location of the storm’s US landfall will depend on its final path, which could shift in the coming days. If the system strengthens, I’ll update you this week.
